For foreign tourists who are planning to come to Sakurajima
The eruption alert of Sakurajima has been lowered back to the original level
The eruption alert of Sakurajima has been lowered from level 4 to level 3 since 4:00 PM today. (The eruption alert of Sakurajima is usually level 3 which is the restriction on entering the mountain.) The facilities which have been closed since the 15th of August are already reopened from the 27th of August and it is safe to visit Sakurajima.
Arimura Lava Observatory and Furusato Park are still remained closed, but they will soon be open, too.
Autumn is the outing season here in Japan. Please enjoy sightseeing in Kagoshima!

Reopening of a Portion of Sakurajima Area Tourism Facilities
The Sakuajima Area tourism facilities listed below will resume operation following their closing after the Sakurajima Alert Level was raised to 4 on 15 August (Saturday).

In response to Sakurajima's warning level being raised to 4, the island's tourist facility's and buses offered the following information.
Tourist Facility Closure

-Sakurajima Island View; bus service running in Sakurajima
-Sakurajima regular tourist bus service
-Rainbow Beach
-Saido Beach
-Kurokami Buried Shrine Gate Parking
-Furusato Park
*these facilities will be reopened once safety is confirmed.

-Regular buses (60 and 70 numbers) will operate as usual.

Evacuation advisory was lifted.(August 22nd 11:30am)
Evacuation advisory in Arimura, Furusato and Kurokami (Shioyagamoto) areas was lifted at 11:30am on August 22nd.(by Kagoshima city headquarters for disaster control)
1.Area information
(1) Evacuation advisory was changed to the information of preparation for evacuation at Arimura and Furusato areas.
(2) Evacuation advisory at Kurokami (Shioyagamoto) area was lifted. The information of preparation for evacuation was also lifted.
2. Reason
This decision was made on the basis of opinions from various experts of volcano.

There is a possibility that Sakurajima will have larger scale eruption than usual.
Residents who live within 3 km from the crater have evacuated and the tourist facilities such as Yunohira Observatory, Arimura Lava Observatory, Kurokami Buried Shrine Gate, and Sakurajima Island View Bus are unavailable.
We cannot recommend you to do sightseeing in Sakurajima under current situation, however the facilities near Sakurajima Port which is 6 km away from crater (such as Sakurajima Visitor Center and Rest Stop) are still open.
